Treatment before components before powder coating It can not be stressed enough how important it is pre-treatment of surfaces prior to coating. The failure to ensure proper cleanliness before powder can lead to at best a poor finish, and at worst premature failure of the surface, resulting in costly repairs.
One of the most important features for the right is the right balance of cost performance - too many components can be over-determined, resulting in high costs and uncompetitive treatment, but most often in the specification lead premature failure.
There are several methods of pre-treatment before powder, but the following three are those most often used - each with its own merits:
1. Degreasing. This can vary from a simple wipe with a cloth soaked in a liquid property degreasing, steam cleaning rather complex ultrasound. The contaminated area will be clean and dry quickly enough to be ready for painting almost immediately, the rate of evaporation of the solvent. This method is double-edged sword that issues from the environment can be a problem if not properly managed. It is, however, the system of choice if the cost and simplicity are important considerations.
2. Phosphate conversion coatings. This time cleans and engravings of the material, providing a crystal surface. There are two basic types: zinc and iron, both offering excellent durability, with zinc phosphate out better performance, and iron for better consideration of the environment more friendly. This latter feature makes this system better for balance between performance and cost.
3. Galvanizing. This is a vague term that most people associate with silver glitter finish on the fences and gates, but in reality it covers all metal surfaces covered with another metal - usually to avoid corrosion . Thus plated objects are strictly speaking, galvanized.
Most often the surface is galvanized zinc. Because it is considered a full finish, other coating can be problematic if not treated properly, this system is preferred when performance is the main consideration.
