Secrets to collect Vintage & Antique Jewelry at 20% of market value Over the past 35 years I have collected antique and vintage signed and unsigned costume and fine jewelry and through this experience, I found several ways to find and buy the parts and the most amazing collection, with values much higher than what I paid.
My proven secret worked and therefore I have a wonderful collection of most of the pieces signed and book dating from the late 1800s until now tio. I have gotten signed and unsigned Miriam Haskell (some of which have been developed for Coco Chanel and have even been featured in print ads for Chanel in the late 1930s and 40), Schiaparelli, Pennino, McClelland-Barclay, Alfred Philippe for Trifari, DeMario, and several of the most sought after names in the genre of antique jewelry and vintage.
There are three secrets I use to acquire these pieces desirable.
The first secret is to align myself with companies that sell goods from the house of the deceased. I create relationships with the owners of these companies and ask if I can inspect all jewelry (if suit or a fine) before the date of sale of the property. In exchange, I help to make their future sales by notifying the antique store owners and retail stores that may be on the market for large furniture, rugs and accessories. For companies disposal of property of that support is very valuable because it raises their chances of getting better than fair market value as they will sell to dealers. There is a second part of this secret and that is that it also works with auctioneers auction that general household and personal items. Once you develop these relationships, they will call prior to an auction and sell to you before the auction preview at a much lower box.
The second secret is to align with the pawn shop owners. They do not sell jewelry that is really no intrinsic value, but will offer a wholesale price for costume jewelry made by the people and for a small profit selling it to me. I acquired the most amazing pieces this way. Someone has unfortunately hit a rough spot and need cash and are generally unique to all their drawers that can include a lot more beautiful costume jewelry, but most likely. The pawnbroker knows they have a moment to sell me everything and all the costume jewelry and more likely to sell me a box lot. The person who needs money to win, the pawnbroker, and I get really win, because most items have been in the family for years and may date from the late 30s or older. Some may be trash but there is always at least one or two songs that have made the operation a success.
The third secret and has tact and sensitivity, is when a widow or child of a family member recently died trying to turn the page and feels the need to give or to "cleanse" their goods and chattels personal. The family heard about me through an ad I ran in the local newspaper or "Pennysaver magazine" indicating that I pay cash for all costume jewelry. The family will appeal and I always give them a fairer price for items they have and they are happy and I found the most wonderful treasures to add to my collection.
Overall, after a few years to use the secrets above you people come to know that the jewelry lady "and calls are still coming selections of jewelry will continue to improve.
Good luck in your treasure hunt and search for jewelry!
