Titian PaintingsTitian - The Great Century Venetian painter 16th

Titian was born in the small village of Pieve di Cadore in the Italian Alps, which was then part of the Republic of Venice, somewhere between 1485 and 1490. The exact date of his birth is not known because Titian himself voluntarily to be older than him, to play on the sympathies of his bosses. The family in which Vecellio was born was at ease. Several members of the family were artists and some of them have been renamed.

When Titian was around nine to twelve he was sent to Venice with one of his brothers, and learning from Zuccati Sebastiano, a mosaic master. Shortly after, he entered the workshop of Giovanni Bellini, who had a lasting influence on him. While studying under Bellini, Giorgione and Titian met with two painters became so close in both style and friendship that is often very difficult to differentiate their works.

Initially, Titian was the assistant of Giorgione and the two artists collaborated on the frescoes from outside the German stock exchange on the Grand Canal. The frescoes have mostly not survived. Giorgione died unexpectedly in 1510 and it fell to Titian (which many already considered the best artist) to complete its committees. Giovanni Bellini died in 1516 and became the artist Titian to Venice. He was without rival in the city-state for his career of 60 years together.

Now, Titian was in high demand and he has created his own studio on the Grand Canal. It was very good to get the support and the support of wealthy patrons, even though he liked to plead poverty. At about the time of the death of Bellini, he managed to be appointed official painter of the Venetian Republic. It has been producing masterpieces of dramatic composition whose color work was fresh and revolutionary. Each painting, he produced a sensation. One example is his masterpiece of the Assumption of the Virgin, painted in 1518. These bold colors and large scale has never been seen before.

Titian was in a relationship with Cecilia, a young woman from his hometown, the couple married during their second son, Orazio was born in 1525. They later had two daughters, only one survived. Cecilia died in childbirth in 1530 and Titian never remarried. His sister and later his daughter, Lavinia, take care of his household. Orazio became the assistant of Titian and was a remarkable portrait. A change is apparent in the work of Titian after the death of his wife. His paintings are now more cautious, both in form and color. There was less contrasting colors and more shades lighter used in juxtaposition.

Meanwhile, Titian had neglected his obligations to the government of Venice. In 1538, he was ordered to repay the money he received for work on the Doge's Palace and appointed one of his rivals in his place. But the rival died in the year and Titian, who meanwhile had conscientiously applied himself to painting a victorious battle of Venice, has been restored.

In 1548, Emperor Charles V at Augsburg called Titian to paint two portraits and in 1550 he was summoned again, this time to paint a portrait of the emperor's son, who became King Philip II of Spain .

Sometime after 1550, Titian returned to Venice and his style has changed again. He worked on a commission for King Philip II of Spain - a series of mythological paintings the most famous of which is the Rape of Europa. In this form of work becomes vapid. The intense color and strong brush strokes dissolve into blurry textures giving the impression of an impending disaster.

Titian died of the plague in Venice August 27, 1576. It was about 91 years and his amazing career has lasted over 60 years. It was a supreme master of his life - her contemporaries called him "the little Sun star environment - and a major influence on future generations a.
