Brand Consultant, Sandy Dumont

For 23 years I lived in Belgium. He was best and worst thing that ever happened to my business. It was the worst thing because it is very sad to hear a customer say: "I'd rather look ugly than wear the colors you offer." It was the best thing that ever happened to me because I learned how to remedy this over-recurrent situation. The woman who said to me was very serious. You see, she had discovered that the grunge "colors that are so popular in Belgium did not make its best. In fact, they made her look sad, tired and more. And by the end of the workshop, she saw in the mirror and recognize that it did not look good in grunge colors as Loden (olive) green, brown, mustard and beige. She also noted that the fuchsia and cherry red were the most flattering colors, but she could never think of wearing them because they would make him stand out too much.

You see, Belgium has been invaded since the days of Julius Caesar. One by one, most of Europe has invaded this small country. Belgians quickly discovered that it is wise to blend into the background and not be noticed. To stand out, they observed, could you be hanged, shot or carried away by your ponytail to the cave behind the winner again.

Belgium's climate is similar to Seattle. It's raining and overcast most of the time, so the colors that allow you to blend into this country with huge forests and woods are the colors of autumn. It is no coincidence that the colors were popularized grunge in Seattle because, throughout the world, people tend to dress "match" their environment. It is one of the survival instincts are going deeper all the way back to the days of cavemen.

Color is my passion, he broke my heart to see my Belgian friends look so dull. I resolved to find a way to get them to look in the mirror and actually see the results. Certainly, they could see that certain colors make you happy and other colors make you look dull, dreary and sad. It took me a few years and many trials and errors with different methods, but eventually I learned to teach others to "watch and see." In other words, to distinguish between colors that make you feel good - or safe - and the colors that make you look good in the mirror.

Finally, a number of journalists came to interview me because they had heard some crazy stories to impress in bright colors. I ended up doing several television and be selected by the Belgian state television to be their image consultant. It was a long and arduous journey to success, but it was worth it!

While in Belgium, I served as president of the 900-member Women's International Club, which allowed me to observe the difference between over 53 different nationalities and cultures, and I discovered something thing on the Belgian members.

Most members were very international in attitude and clothing. Sometimes, however, we were met with fashion clothing or costumes of all nations of the club. For years our "fashion clothes, American women had no other" national costume "in addition held cowgirl, while women wore African nations colorful floral prints and exquisite jungle prints . Belgian women wore "farm" costumes like those in a painting by Brueghel. It is interesting to see how often ancient costumes find their place in "modern" dress. We Americans still love our jeans and cowboy boots, and gorgeous floral and jungle prints still permeate the scene at the time of modern Africa. Belgians today wear designer clothes, but always cut the dull colors of Bruegel.

Throughout the many years I lived in Belgium, I noticed that most people around the world Dre.
