The secrets of oil painting and art of wildlife Painting wildlife and animals in oils may seem like a very daunting prospect for beginners and novice painters, but it is not necessary. When you follow a few simple rules and procedures.
Oils the most merciful
Beginners often feel oil painting as a medium difficult, but in reality it is one of the most lenient. Over the years I have used just about everything, but always return to the oil. I just find Acrylic dries too quickly, and you need several coats to achieve coverage of oils. Watercolor is timing, place one color to another color wet wet at the wrong time and you can have all sorts of terrible things, like runbacks, bleeding, etc. I found watercolor, by far the media most difficult to master - especially for beginners. Oils on the other hand give me enough time to relax, I think the next step and time consuming if I want to blend from one color to another, while creating a smooth, beautiful sky color for instance.
The New Oil Paintings
Also new developments with the production of oil paint means they can now dry at night - they are called alkyd oil paints and thinners odorless means you do not have to stink whole house with the smell of turpentine, so there is no reason why beginners should not paint the first to be made using oil / alkyd paint.
Wildlife Art Secrets (what I learned in 10 years)
Wildlife / Animal painting is very popular - many people would like to be able to paint their pets, or perhaps they had a special celebration in Africa and would like to paint their memories, but beginners may be disappointed with their first attempts to capture the animals. I know I was when I started painting wildlife about 10 years ago - I read almost every book on the subject and watched a lot of videos too, but they all seemed to have one thing in common - they left detailed instructions and skipped too many steps, it was very frustrating. So I made a decision, I started my own website so I can share my experiences with other artists that I learned new techniques myself - my site www.jasonmorgan.co.uk was born.
Over the years I have learned many key secrets that have helped to rocket my paintings of wildlife from mediocre to professional standard. Such as: - having always under layers of fur and feathers so dark you have something to throw on the fur detailed above. How to make a chiseled edge on a round brush, essential for making realistic marks and much more.
It is impossible to prove these things fully and without pictures, so why not come on my site www.jasonmorgan.co.uk and see my tutorials free ebook and much more.
