MarketplacePainting For BeginnersPosted on April 3, 2010. Oil Painting for Beginners - Getting Started in Oil Painting One of the questions most frequently asked by beginners in oil painting is: How do I start? To get started in oil painting is relatively easy. There are some basic supplies you need and some basic guidelines to follow. This article will explain how beginners can start with oil paint. This article will not teach you how to become a good painter however. In fact, nobody can make you a good painter. You can be taught certain things, and you take what you've learned and apply it.
Many beginners who are new to the medium of painting in oil, have generally the same questions. So let's cover those questions now so that you can start your journey of painting at once.
Oil Painting Supplies
The first thing you need to do is buy some supplies. You do not need to spend a ton of money on expensive oil painting supplies. Begin at the beginning you're only a beginner at this time. The objective at this stage is to get used to working with your support, brushes, paints and other materials. supplies will be wasted so much during this step.
Support
You will need your support to paint on. There are a number of different media that can handle oil paint, but for now, start with the canvas. Many beginners often ask if a canvas needs any special coating or priming for oil paint. The short answer is yes, but you should not worry anyone. Any local supply store or online art supply store will have canvases that are already primed and ready to be used.
Oil painting
Then you will need paint. You do not need an expensive brand of paint. This would be another loss for beginners. There are cheaper, good quality paints on the market that works beautifully for your painting needs. Here are a few oil paint brands to test: Winsor & Newton Winton Oil Colors, Grumbacher Academy Oils and Daler-Rowney Georgian Oil Colors.
For those of you who may be concerned about the potential dangers associated with oil paintings, do not be afraid. Introduction to watercolors oil miscible! These paintings are fantastic. They can be diluted with water rather than using dangerous solvents like turpentine. Here are two brands to try if you're interested: Max Grumbacher miscible with water and oil colors Winsor & Newton Artisan Water Miscible Oil Colors.
Brushes Oil Painting
Having good quality brushes is important. Although a quality brush will not make you a better painter, a cheap brush do you wind up frustrating. When you use cheap brushes, you'll see why. cheap brushes tend to throw the hair getting stuck in the oil painting, which is extremely annoying. good quality brushes should have straight hair and back up when you run your fingers through them. They must be well designed and robust.
You do not need that many brushes for oil paintings. Personally, I use two types of brushes, Oil Painting: the apartments and nuts of different sizes. I have a few towers and a fan brush in hand, but I almost never use them. I would also recommend that you use hogs hair brushes, soft brushes rather than synthetic hair. The synthetic brushes are too fragile to handle the middle of oil paint in my opinion.
Clean your brushes is important, do not be negligent in this area, especially if you work with brushes of high quality. Many artists recommend turpentine for cleaning brushes, but I can not bring myself to use this kind of thing. I use a brush cleaning much safer product called "The Masters" Brush Cleaner and Preserver.
I clean my brushes right after a painting session with this product and it works wonderfully. It may take some time.
