Unpainted concrete may seem dull and dreary future. But with a bit of hard work, you can completely transform the floor and give it a brand new look. Painting concrete is an excellent way to beautify a garage floor or laundry room at minimal cost.

Concrete is harder to paint as the plaster, and it takes a few more steps. If you have decided to paint a concrete floor there are tools and equipment you will need to complete the project. You'll need a mask, goggles, gloves, brush, paint roller, a paint tray, concrete sealer, concrete paint, etching acid, tri sodium phosphate (TSP) , hydraulic cement, a broom, bucket and mop.

A thorough cleaning of the surface to be painted is probably the most important step. You must remove any oil or grease from the surface. Large patches of fat can be absorbed with kitty litter to absorb it.

This first step in painting a concrete floor is to mix the TSP cleaning solution according to manufacturer's instructions. Wash the floor thoroughly with TSP solution, rinse well and dry completely.

Then, use hydraulic cement to repair cracks or holes in concrete.

Wearing gloves and goggles, a combination of etching acid with water according to manufacturer's instructions. Be sure to mix the etching acid before start using it.

Pour a small amount of etching acid on the concrete floor and using MOP spread of acid in a small area. Continue this process until you have completely burned the entire floor. Allow the acid to dry completely, then use a shop vacuum cleaner to clean the etched concrete and remove any dust and debris from the floor.

Once you have completely etched and cleaned the floor, it is now time to apply the primer. Stir the primer to stick with a sure to mix. Drizzle in the primary reservoir paint tray. Using your brush, cut in the entire perimeter of the room and around other fixed objects in the room as poles or floor vents. After cutting in the room, using the roller and paint tray, roll a primer on the work floor in four foot sections. Make sure not to paint you in a corner. Allow primer to dry completely before applying the paint,

After the primer is dry, using the same steps you used when applying the primer, now apply the paint concrete floor in the same way. Drying time varies depending on what type of floor paint that you used.

The last step is the application of a sealer on the floor. Sealers can have strong fumes, so be sure to keep the place well ventilated area and wear a mask. A layer or two of a quality sealer will protect your floors painted for many years to come.
