Kiln ArtThe purchase of a furnace for melting glass

When you begin to learn the process of melting glass, it is important that you have oven a few key points. A good example of what is necessary for melting glass is my recent visit to the local high school.

I was recently asked to assist an art teacher in a local school. She has a burning desire to learn and melting glass to his students. I decided that I would see her set up and supplies.

The teacher had purchased a kiln for around $ 800 and bought glass and other supplies for her class. I was interested to see what she was planning on baking use to teach these 200 additional students.

The oven was quite large, but was not suitable for teaching and melting glass. The idea is that everything would work for glass melting furnace, right? Well, that's what I always felt pretty good until I took a look at this brand new furnace.

One of the main things you need when it is the process of melting glass is a pyrometer. What is a pyrometer and how can it help merge? A pyrometer will indicate the air temperature inside an oven. Although this does not tell you the glass temperature, the temperature of the air gives you an idea of the temperature of your glass. If you have no idea what the temperature is inside, you do not know what is happening on the glass. Each oven is very different and unique. This may take an hour to reach oven temperature setpoint, while another oven can take forty-five minutes to reach the same temperature. Since the oven is not equipped with a pyrometer, there was no way to regulate what was happening on the glass inside the furnace.

This particular oven did not have a viewing window. Today, most ovens have a viewing window, and it is not necessary to the melting glass. But if there is no pyrometer, it is important to have a lease window so you can see what is happening inside the oven.

Now, this furnace had a peephole. Located on the top of the oven was a peephole. Since hot air rises, the opening of the peephole in the process of firing would allow the hot air rushing into your face.

There were no inside this particular oven tray. You can fire without a tray from the oven, but you still need to have air circulating around your parts merge. Air circulation helps ensure that your glass is heating to a uniform temperature. If you do not have a shelf of the oven, try to place your articles on the messages so you get the necessary air circulation around your room.

There was a button digital control to operate this oven. With a numeric button, you must constantly watch and watch your pieces to get the desired look. It requires constant monitoring and is something that is not possible while teaching a classroom full of students.

If no pyrometer, or window on an oven, then you really need a babysitter oven. A guard will check your furnace and oven is programmable for different programs. This is a desired and sometimes necessary article. There is no way to control your glass with a pyrometer, window, or sitting in the oven the oven is not suitable for melting glass.

When purchasing a furnace, it is important that you spend your money wisely. Search all fours before placing an order. The ovens are expensive and necessary for the performance of glass melting. They are one of the more expensive items you buy. Check different brands and models and see which items are standard. Make sure the oven you buy a pyrometer, if nothing else. This above all is key when buying an oven.
