Chapter 1
The waters, the fleet and the marshes of the Blackwater estuary, extending eastwards towards the North Sea, looks strange and unreal, in the light of morning. John Francis had known the area since childhood and now surveyed the scene with mixed feelings of familiarity and excitement at the prospect of his return. He banked the Cessna to port, maintain a level of 30 degrees magnetic, just before he could see the contours of Osea Island, its final destination. There were now only two miles to its target. This is not an easy landing. A steep descent, full flaps, flaring out just above the dam, which bordered the southern end of the field of ragweed.
It had been ten years now, since he had sailed in these waters with his wife Beth. Long, lonely years that he regretted bitterly again. They met as students and married in the spring of next year, 1975. Both were in their late teens and perhaps a little more optimistic in their efforts. The summer of this year was idyllic. They rented living space in an old loft near the river, and sailed regularly in the evenings and on weekends throughout the season. Beth in August had fallen for her child, but was turned into the attic of winter are no longer offered the luxury home she had previously offered to them. Then, in the Christmas week Beth had slipped on the stairs loft, fell ill and had a miscarriage.

At ten years, beating the Commission in the Royal Air Force has helped ease the profound sense of loss and failure after the event. After completing his flying training, he was appointed to the Transportation Command. There was a time to feel complete and secure his position, he had tried to contact Beth to see that the family had moved abroad.
His attention was drawn to a small light flashing on the island. It was his beacon landing, as promised. He put his fuel mixture to rich, full flaps and began to let down to this point in the dark. This landing was one of so many that the experience he had, but remains difficult in these conditions. He remembered his instructor Harry said: "They are all easily when your feet are on the ground." The advisor had served him well throughout his career.
Harry tenant, hip to his friends, was really put through the mill during his flight training, for which he was eternally grateful. He had removed most of the errors and bad habits that young drivers could succumb to, and earned him the rich experience he has now under his belt, so to speak. They had become friends over the years now and have always been please to see each other when their paths crossed as they often did. In fact, their last meeting took place in the city a month earlier. "Hello CHUM! He had always called the CHUM." Did not beat the office then? "Hip continued," will not! "He replied.'s Involvement with the transport command ended after infection of ear had landed in the doc for a while. They offered the job of office, but he decided to resign and try his luck elsewhere. "Got.
