Folk Art StoresAcapulco - Shopping for folk arts, crafts and souvenirs - Where to go

When you come to Acapulco you can appreciate how easy it is to find quality folk art and gifts and happy memories. This article shows you where to Acapulco, you can go shopping for souvenirs and folk art. A related article provides general information and advice, and a third deals with the Mexican silver.

Cruise Ship passengers. If you arrive by cruise ship, time is more limited, and you'll probably want to stay in the city where the ship docked. (If you have all day, however, do not be afraid to take a taxi and explore the bay!) The few shops in the terminal itself are good choices. They are reliable, and although their prices are not the lowest in town, they are safe and practical. The clerks speak French and English and in Spanish, and the selection is always very good. If you walk near Fort San Diego, gift shop also has books, prints and crafts authentic. Around the central square, the Zocalo, a few blocks away, you can find many other stores too, although they tend more toward art souvenirs and handicrafts. Approximately one minute to 10 beyond the Zocalo, you will find the Mercado de Artesanias Parazal (also called "Tepito"), you will find a huge collection of booths and tables of all kinds, selling almost everything imaginable. You're in the neighborhood of Acapulco oldest shopping, and you will pass many other shops on the road and. On the way back, you can find a couple of more shops of folk art in the two blocks immediately east of the zocalo, on the Costera Aleman.

Acapulco vacationers. If you are in town for a while, you should expect to hit a few other places, mainly along the Costera Aleman. Technically, outdoors, remember the market is a "Mercado de Artesanias," but people call it a Tianguis "." Some more art than trash, more than any other junk art, and they all have plenty to eat well. In addition to Parazal Artesanaas Mercado, mentioned above, there are smaller versions on Caletilla Beach (down at the west end of the Costera), opposite Tamarindos Beach (called Noa Noa, near Horn) , opposite the Parque Papagayo, and through the Crowne Plaza in the "gold". At the round-Diana, Diana Mercado de Artesanaas covers a large area, and offers a particularly rich selection of folk art, including blouses and skirts. Scattered along the Costera from one end to another are small areas where street vendors displayed their wares. They are not as permanent (or semi-permanent) that tiaguis, but they have good choice and value. Aboriginal suppliers are usually women, almost always dressed in brightly colored dresses with puffed sleeves shirt size and increased accordion skirts, an apron covered deck in a contrasting color and pattern. For the most part, Spanish is the second language, and a good proportion of them can speak at least as well as you. The gestures work fine.

For gifts and decorative items in a range of high quality, several stores have become very popular with tourists. Costa Azul, around the east side of the bay you will find the Casa de Cultura "(about half a block past the park CiCi water on the same side of the street). Here, the city government operates a cultural center that also handles sales by local artists in their own works. Ceramics, pottery, jewelry, paintings, handmade crafts of all kinds are sold here, and prices are generally very reasonable. Occasionally, artisans will set up a demonstration to show passersby how they create their art. Artesanaas Finas de Acapulco (known locally as Afa-ACA) is a large store with a large stock of works in all of Mexico. You can even drink.
