Folk Art Craft ShowAcapulco - Shopping for folk arts, crafts and souvenirs - General Tips

As a hub for cruise ships and that Mexico "Grande Dame" of tourism, Acapulco is a major center for the purchase of folk art quality in all of Mexico. In addition, you will surely find it really easy to find lots of inexpensive gifts and souvenirs. This article gives general information and advice on the purchase of folk art, handicrafts and souvenirs in Acapulco. A related article is on the case of the city you find these things. A third deals with the separate issue of money in Mexico.

Your shopping planning. Travel Experts generally recommend making a list of people you need to buy, create a budget and do your shopping in two stages. Make an exit just to surf, and another to make your purchase. It is best to do all this at the beginning of your vacation, so you can relax and not worry about that later. Last minute business results out of the city almost always less inspired purchases, more stress, more expense than to work carefully. Everyone knows that the departure lounge of the airport is not the best place to buy anything.

Your first exit - to go - it's just that you know all your options and array of choices before settling in the negotiation. You can also get good ideas on how variable the prices asked, and therefore whether the bargain will mean a good deal. You can also evaluate whether you should be holder of exchange or a credit card works well for you. After the first exit, revise your shopping list with more specific ideas (and cost information) that you collected during reconnaissance.

Bargain on prices. In general, the negotiations with the vendor can produce a lower price for you, especially if you're in a market garden or on the beach. Products in formal retail (with air conditioner and windows) are usually not price in the hopes of bargaining. You may be able to get a rebate of money or quantity, but in general, the price is the price. If you're lucky to talk to the owner or manager, you can claim a more generous discounts if you can think of a reason why you deserve it. In almost all other contexts, you should make cons-offer. Imagine the opening price is double what the seller hopes. If you can not get the price where you want it, leave. Acapulco has many other suppliers who will compete for your preference. If you arrive at a price that suits you, say "OK". Unless you particularly enjoy the haggling over the price, your vacation time is precious little that the pesos you can earn by investing time and efforts.

Authentic folk art. Several shops and galleries sell folk art, some signed by famous artists. This includes the figures of the Huichol bead and black pottery of Oaxaca. A number of places offer a reasonable quality for not much money. Aboriginal suppliers on the beaches and streets of Acapulco sell their own work, which includes textiles, jewelry made from seeds, shells and semi-precious minerals, masks, decorative wood carvings, hammocks , bowls, baskets, hats, handbags and figurines. Usually, there is so much inventory in a place that is difficult to assess a single element. Pick It Up and keep it away from the rest to see if it appeals to you when viewed in isolation. Reviewing implementation of the work. Necklaces and bracelets of shells or stones that are held together by a rope fiber (instead of a chain) must be solid, but flexible.

Mexican Silver involves several additional considerations. See related article, which covers this topic.

Memories. The open-air markets should be your starting point for memories. Make sure what you want is the local section, and not something important.
