I live in Ohio, which is an area that can be hard, cold winters and hot summers and dry. fluctuations Ohio weather wreak havoc on driveways and sidewalks and make them not uncommon to see these surfaces to a phase of deterioration. In minor cases, damage appears as small circular patches of concrete off or "chips", leaving scars on the surface of concrete. In more severe cases of erosion can be so bad that the concrete disintegrates and eventually need to be replaced. There are two factors that contribute to this degradation:

1) The heavy frost thaws that occur when you have large temperature differences 2) chemical degradation caused by the use of road salt and deicing chemicals.

When chemicals are part of the problem, the degradation is most evident on the tarmac of the driveway or in areas where cars are parked. The deck entry is subject to road salt that flows through blowing snow and the cars are exposed to road salt that followed in the vehicle. This damage can be prevented by treating the driveway with a water repellent that prevents water and chemicals soak into the concrete and do their damage. The process to do it properly really very simple. Just follow a few basic steps.

Start by cleaning things It's time to make it look like your new concrete again, removing all dirt and stains that have accumulated over the years, and the process is fairly easy to do. For this step, you'll need a pressure washer, a garden variety pump sprayer-up, a five-gallon bucket and cleaning masonry. I use a product called Defy Safer Masonry Cleaner. The good thing is that it works just like hydrochloric acid, which is a very concrete cleaner, but not burn your skin or harmful fumes, acid cleaner usually does. As its name suggests, it is "safer".

To begin, fill a 5 gallon bucket with 4 liters of water then add one gallon of Defy Safer Masonry Cleaner. Pour this mixture diluted in the spray pump in place and you're ready to go. Make sure you work in sections and begin by wetting the first section down with a garden hose. Spray a generous amount of cleaner on the wetland, let stand for 4 or 5 minutes, then power wash the area clean. Move a section in front the entire surface has been cleaned.

If you already have damage, patching. Use a hammer and a chisel, take a few minutes to remove any concrete that is not securely fastened and in place. If it is loose now, is that going to get worse so you might as well remove it and make the necessary repairs. For smaller scars, is a matter for trial or do not fill in. Just keep in mind that you always cosmetically repaired areas is a bit different from the rest of the concrete, so if things are still pretty well respected You can only leave the small surface imperfections.

How do I actually do your repairs will be different, depending on the size of the area you need to correct. There is a pretty good tutorial video www.easy2diy.com that will guide you through the different stages of the process and help ensure that repairs are done correctly and will last.

Take a break, maybe go fishing. That is always my favorite part of a project because I love to fish! Whenever you work with concrete, you should take your time. To seal the concrete is first made, these areas will be patched very acidic. It's bad when it comes to the cover with a sealant or paint. Instead, wait about four weeks and patched areas should become more neutral with a pH of say, around 7. With a more neutral pH, the sealant that you ap.
