Paint Horse Race The horse of American painting is a stock-type horse that is intelligent and is built for agility and speed and has a "ready" attitude. It is ideal for many different riding needs such as ranch work, showing, pleasure driving, rodeo and they are wonderful horses for children and beginning riders.
For a horse to be registered as a painting, it must fall within three categories. Tobiano, Overo paint or Tovero.
The Tobiano pattern has an oval or round white patch that extends into the neck and chest. Often in this diagram, the white crosses the horse's back between the withers and the tail and the head may be solid or fire, band, or star. Their legs are usually white below the knees and sometimes the tail will be two colors.
The Overo paint horse may be predominantly white or black. They often have very white markings on the head like a face "bald". Overo markings are usually scattered and irregular and legs are the same. They may have one or all four legs dark or white, but their tail is usually one color.
The paint marks can be as varied as the American Paint Horse Association has a third category to classify the characteristics of both Tobiano and Overo. They call this classification, Tovero.
American Indians, who coveted the loud and bold patterns I learned to love the horse American painting and began to collect them in flocks because of their color and performance. The Comanche Indians, who are regarded as having been the best rider of the horse of painting as much as they could be used as described in their first drawings of spotted horses found on buffalo hides. To the Indian painting had special magic to help them defeat their enemies.
The Paint Horse has had a variety of names in the 1800s and later. Paint, Pinto, magpie skewbald few names have been used to describe some of the flashy horse. When an association was first discussed people wanted to keep the type of stocks in the breeding of horse painting. In fact, the only difference between a horse and paint horse stock type is the color.
There are strict standards for confirmation by the APHA, performance and athletic ability of the paint applied. Also, the original features such as intelligence, will provide a calm temperament and are kept in mind in the breeding of these horses.
There is a glut of paint horse breeders in our days. There are many colors and patterns as there are horses. No two paintings exactly the same brands and confirmation of what makes each painting unique and special.
