antique ring - real or synthetic stones? I inherited my grandmother's ring, which is in the Art Deco style, with three diamonds in the middle (stacked - like a traffic light) and two garnet tube on each side. I do not think they rubies because they are a deep red, but clear. The ring is from the 1920s, and 14K gold. Department. jewelry store once told me synthetic stones have been because he could see small bubbles. Is he right?
It is quite possible that he was right and the stones are synthetic, I have no way to tell without examining the ring for myself. You get inclusions in natural stones, both liquid and gas, as the previous author said, but they do not look anything like the bubbles of gas are found in many plastics, and particular, the early synthetic made in the 1920s. It will be in your interest to take the ring to a reputable jeweler and get a notice, it may be free, but at most only cost a few dollars and you can be sure.

Heres a link about synthetic stones, I hope this helps
They could be ruby or garnet, but the bubbles indicate that they are real: fluid inclusions are common in stone, but at the expense of their value: synthetic stones are usually flawless.
