How do I remove the hazing (probably water or heat marks) from a polished mahogany veneer furniture? Bought a little art deco trolley an auction without looking at the first (bad move I know). There are many bleaching varnish on top - is there safe, easy to get rid of it or should it be a job for a professional furniture restorer?
If this piece is finished with shellac, then you must use a method known as French polishing to restore the finish line.
Shellac is an alcohol-based and the humidity when it is on it, it turns white or opaque. French Polishing consumes alcohol to restore the original luster.

I think you'll probably have an entirely new surface veneer. I have a comfortable 30's-40's who is in a similar state. It is our fault, putting it on coffee cups, etc. You can try sanding very carefully, then re-opening, but remember that the veneer will be very thin. Also, make sure you know what caused the problem in the first place - at least that way you can avoid it happening again.
Try Howard (Restor.A.Finish) With a simple wipe on, wipe-off process, most finished wood surfaces that seem to need finishing work can be completely restored in minutes. white heat rings and water marks, sun fade, oxidation, smoke damage, and imperfections of most others can be quickly eliminated. Before going to the extreme of stripping it, try to restore! Can be purchased at Lowe's or any hardware store.
Hello,
Try cigarette ash if you smoke or know someone who does.
Add a little water to the ashes and make a paste. Rub a little on the spot and wait a few minutes and wipe with a soft cloth.
If it does the job that you want to continue until it is done

Many of the home remedies mentioned will work.
You have tried a lazy "Formby" kit on a small office (not the most beautiful piece of TheWorld but in good shape) in a similar state.
Came w / a cleaning product, "restaurateur and Polish.
Surprisingly good results with only the cleaner so I gave the whole office full treatment.
Did not restore the original high gloss, but Im happy with it.
Good luck.
White Heat Marks and Water Rings on Wood Furniture: If the wood has a good finish (do not try on bare wood), mix equal parts of baking soda and regular white, non-gel toothpaste . Slightly dampen a corner of white cloth and clean with fresh water and dip into batter. With circular motion gently buff the marks for a few minutes. Clean the area of the flap, and rub to a shine. Follow with furniture polish. (If rings remain after buffing five minutes, they may have penetrated the wood, you may have to finish the piece). If it does not work, soak a cloth in vegetable oil, then in cigarette ashes, then rub it on the mark. Another method is to rub real mayonnaise onto the stain, let sit overnight, then wipe with a dry towel.
