Help cleanup old varnish and smoke off furniture ...? We have recently quit and go through the house cleaning of artworks, walls etc. Anyone got the answer to clean years of varnish and smoke accumulated outside the old (not antique) furniture? This kind of thing that is sticky and disgusting as the weather gets wetter ... I think I've ever heard of denatured alcohol??
To remove the varnish buildup, combine vinegar 1 / 2 cup and 1 / 2 cup water. Rub furniture with a soft cloth that has been soaked in solution. Dry immediately with a clean cloth.
Since the smell of smoke lingers in carpets, upholstery and curtains, you will need to address these areas to eliminate the smell of cigarette smoke. You need to either wash these items, or if you want to fix more quickly, you can try a commercial odor remover. Once the odor is removed, you can try leaving a small container of vinegar in each room to keep a fresh smell. If you have smokers in your home, you can keep several candles burning while they are smokers, and covering the bottom of ashtrays with baking soda can also help. Nothing replaces fresh air whenever possible, open windows.
Good for you to quit smoking, I am 6 weeks own cigarettes .=)
